New Student Rights Law Passed
The new law, the brainchild of M"K Alex miller (Israel Beytenu) and M"K Silvan Shalom (Likud) will fix student's rights into law. The law had a wide array of topics related to the needs of the student population, both inside the university and in the first initial years after the end of studies. The law has standardized academic rights such as right to sit two exams for every course regardless of the initial grade in the first exam, and the right of every student to examine his graded test. Furthermore the law mandates that a student has the right to be present in every disciplinary hearing that regards him, by the university disciplinary committee. Certain matters of a more public nature have also been included, especially students freedom of speech on campus. Students now have the right to protest on campus without the ability of the campus administration to use sanctions against them. Students economic rights have been dealt with, with a tax point awarded to a first degree (bachelor) for the first three years after studies, and a further half a tax point awarded for a second degree (masters) for two years after the end of studies. M"K Alex Miller who is in charge of students rights for Israel Beytenu commented on the passing of his law, " The new law is an important milestone for student rights in Israel. This is a real revolutionary statute. For the first time in Israel student's rights have been put into law.  Students will no longer be given to the fancy of the heads of the universities. I plan to act to make sure that this law will be kept in full.  This is only the opening shot our extensive plans to improve higher learning in Israel.
